SUMMARY:AMIA 2020 Online
DESCRIPTION:AMIA will celebrate its 30th anniversary conference online! \nThank you all who responded to our survey last month. Overwhelmingly\, while everyone’s first choice would be to meet in person in El Paso\, concerns about the circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic make a virtual event the safest approach this year. As we celebrate our 30th anniversary\, we also believe this is an opportunity to reimagine the conference as an online event that allows broader participation and new voices\, is more affordable to attend\, and can help us model ways of keeping what we learn as part of our next in-person experience. Again\, we expect that our audience will be greatly enhanced by making this event available to the hundreds of members that have not been previously able to attend. We see this as an opportunity to establish our online presence as our events go live again in 2021.

SUMMARY:Integrating OHMS and Omeka
DESCRIPTION:Webinar: Integrating OHMS and Omeka (November 6\, 2020)\n  \nThis webinar explores how to integrate the OHMS plugin suite with Omeka to create a powerful discovery and user experience for online oral history collections.  By displaying the OHMS Viewer within an Omeka item\, users can conduct a text search of interviews\, finding corresponding moments in an online audio or video file. By integrating the OHMS Viewer with Omeka Classic\, users can search interview indexes and transcripts across entire collections. The integration of OHMS and Omeka creates an open source and free system for enhancing access to online oral history.

SUMMARY:NAGARA Fall Forum
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate October’s American Archives Month\, join NAGARA for a full-day Online Forum highlighting strategies and successes that local\, state\, and Federal archives have employed and achieved in advancing their functions and processes. Learn from the processes that Mississippi used to inventory and preserve historical records housed across 82 counties. Join the Texas State Library and Archives in deliberating the merits of posting collections online when there is a high level of sensitivity in the content\, but no legal access restrictions. Hear from the Library and Archives Canada on how they used a risk-based approach legal review and reappraisal of large quantities of records. And find out how NARA’s Digital Preservation Department is working with agencies to promote the digital transfer and preservation of records. Finally\, attendees of this event will dig into the Jefferson Lab archives as they gained intellectual control 35 years’ worth of unprocessed scientific materials and worked with scientific researchers to preserve their records when they retire.

SUMMARY:Introduction to OHMS
DESCRIPTION:Webinar: Introduction to OHMS (October 26\, 2020)\n  \nThe Oral History Metadata Synchronizer (OHMS) is a free and open source web-based system designed to enhance access to online oral history. OHMS connects the textual search term in a transcript or an index to the corresponding moment in the recorded interview. Now being utilized by institutions and individuals around the world\, OHMS was designed to be an easy-to-use solution that can be implemented using a variety of content management systems\, from WordPress or Omeka to more complex digital library platforms. From the beginning\, OHMS was designed with simplicity\, affordability\, and sustainability in mind\, providing individuals and institutions with a powerful option for enhancing online access to oral history.
